Duke Raleigh Hospital offers a Pre-Operative Orthopaedic Surgery Class for all patients and family members. The class covers what you can expect before, during and after joint and spine surgery.
• We will provide you with helpful information, useful tips and answer any and all of your questions.
• You will meet your nurse, case manager, physical therapist and the occupational therapist that will be working with you.
This class occurs every Thursday.

Duke Weight Loss Surgery at Raleigh Seminars

For some people, a healthy diet and rigorous exercise isn’t enough for dramatic weight loss. The weight loss surgery program at Duke Raleigh Hospital may be the answer to help those at risk for serious weight-related health issues.

To apply to the weight loss surgery program, we request prospective patients to first attend a free seminar that provides information about obesity, surgery and our program.

Increase your confidence in the birthing process by attending a series of classes (two classes -- Saturday/Sunday -- February 11 & 12, 2012) that includes information and practice sessions on: *Signs and stages of labor *Breathing techniques *Medical Interventions *Pain management options *Positioning for comfort *Postpartum Information *Role of the support person *What to expect in the hospital. Educators trained as Lamaze certified childbirth instructors (LCCE) teach all classes at Teer House. The eight-hour series is available on weekdays or weekends. Infant/Child CPR and Safety (PBLS)

Participants will receive an introduction to infant and child safety strategies along with CPR training according to the American Heart Association Friends and Family CPR standards. This class does not provide participants with certification cards.
For the comfort of "mom's-to-be", we recommend taking this class before week 34.
Fee: $35 per person or $50 per couple.

Motherhood: The New Reality Show

Bring the baby, pack a lunch and join other new moms as we brainstorm tips on infant care and surviving motherhood. We will discuss developmental milestones of infants, offer suggestions for transitioning back to work, answer feeding questions, and share resources for staying at home full-time. Class/support group is targeted to moms who are 3-12 weeks post delivery; however, any new mother is welcome. Come as often as you like! Classes are facilitated by Duke Pediatric Residents/Pediatrician and Teer House Breastfeeding Educator/Lactation Consultant.

Stroke Support Group

This support group aims to educate the stroke survivor and caregiver about topics relating to stroke.

Genitourinary Support Group
2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
This support group is for patients of genitourinary cancers and their family members. Meetings are held on the second Monday of every month.

KidsCan!

6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
KidsCan! is a program designed to support children ages six to 18 who have a parent or significant caregiver with the diagnosis of cancer. Meetings are held on the second Monday of every month.

Getting in Shape After Baby
Registration open
11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Bring your baby and have fun participating in exercises to tone your belly, regain core stability and improve your strength. This 6 week series of classes is targeted to new moms who are just beginning to exercise after pregnancy. Moms should be at least 6 weeks but not greater than 3 months postpartum when beginning class. If you experienced a cesarean birth, please bring medical clearance from your physician to exercise. To get the most benefit, it is recommended that moms attend the entire series, but it is not mandatory.

Gastrointestinal and Pancreatic Cancer Support Group

Gastrointestinal and pancreatic cancer patients and their family members are invited to join our weekly support group. Meetings are held every Tuesday.

Breast Cancer Support Group
6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Duke Raleigh Cancer Center is offering a breast cancer support group designed for any breast cancer patient. The group provides a place where patients can meet others going through similar experiences and can gain support and friendship. This is an informal group that meets the 2nd Tuesday night each month from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
